Project Updates

Air Products entered into agreements with the Village of Massena and the Town of Massena to install two Level 2 EV charging stations in each jurisdiction to comply with the mitigation requirements of the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act.

Air Products awarded scholarships totaling $25,000 to six students from St. Lawrence and Franklin Counties through the Air Products Greater Massena Scholarship Fund at the Northern New York Community Foundation.

On Monday, May 20, Air Products held a hydrogen safety training session with Chief McDonald and members of the Hogansburg-Akwesasne Volunteer Fire Department (HAVFD) and the St. Regis Mohawk Tribe Environmental Response Team. The training provided an overview of the properties and applications of hydrogen, the potential risks and risk mitigation strategies, and a discussion of the respective emergency response roles and responsibilities. Air Products and the HAVFD both committed to ongoing training and joint emergency response drills in the future.

On Monday, March 11, Air Products held a public information meeting with the community of Akwesasne at the Akwesasne Mohawk Casino Resort.  The meeting was facilitated by James Ransom, former Chief of the St. Regis Mohawk Tribe and former Director of Tehotiienawakon with the Mohawk Council of Akwesasne.  The session, which lasted for about two and a half hours, attracted nearly 100 attendees and provided an opportunity for residents to learn more about the proposed Massena Green Hydrogen facility and for Air Products to address their questions and concerns.  We will continue our outreach and communications efforts with the Akwesasne community as the project progresses.

On February 9, the public comment period closed for Air Products’ State Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (SPDES) permit for the discharge of cooling and process water into the Power Canal. The New York Department of Environmental Conservation will review and respond to the comments it received during this period. Air Products launches the Massena Green Hydrogen project website to provide the community with easy access to up-to-date information about the project. 

The New York Department of Environmental Conservation issues a notice of complete application for Air Products’ State Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (SPDES) permit for the discharge of cooling and process water into the Power Canal. Further action awaits a 30-day public comment period. 

The St. Lawrence County Industrial Development Agency approves a 20-year payment in lieu of taxes agreement to support the development of Air Products’ Massena Green Hydrogen facility.

Work begins to clear site on Pontoon Bridge Road.
